2012/2013 Curriculum

Ok here's the official lineup. We did not purchase MFW again this year for a couple of reasons. Primarily we couldn't afford it. Also for high school my son felt the religious aspect was too far from our beliefs.( we are Latter Day Saints ) We have gone back to a primarily classical education with a touch of Charlotte mason mixed in for the four older kids. The two younger kids will be sticking with MFW.

Homeschooling in an RV will definitely be an interesting experience but I think we can make it work! We did also bring our school table and chairs so days that it's nice we can go outside for school. Otherwise we have a table, couch, beds and clipboards for everyone. I also want to get some TV trays for more table space. We will keep you updated throughout the year and let you know how it's going.

TIV

Today we got to go see the TIV and meet Sean Casey who built the TIV. TIV is short for Tornado Intercept Vehicle This guy built a tank basically with sides that move down to prevent the wind from picking him up and stakes itself into the ground. He did this in the hopes of getting a video of the moment a tornado makes contact and what it's like INSIDE a tornado. So for 12 years he purposely tried to park the TIV in such a fashion that he would be hit by a tornado. What resulted is the movie Tornado Alley. Sean Casey was very interesting and kind and the TIV was just AWESOME!! So glad we got to go :)

The day we robbed the library.......

Ok not really, but it felt like it. The kids have been doing a summer reading program at the library. For every 6 hours they read they get their name entered in a drawing for cool prizes. Well let's just say my kids are readers.
We went in yesterday and the sweet ladies were so excited, "you guys won prizes!" they exclaimed. Then they told us what they'd won.... Now you'll see Why I felt like we robbed the library.
Anna won a $20 visa gift card
Avery won a telescope
Weylin won a HP netbook!!
I am still amazed a day later. I guess reading really does pay off ;)

Science and children's museum.

We are so blessed. My mother got us a membership to the science museum and thanks to that we were also able to get a very inexpensive membership to the children's museum. It has been so hot here that having those memberships has been life saving. Or at least sanity saving. Today's high is 112...... Summer has worn out its welcome now!

By the way if anyone knows how to put text betweens photos when blogging from your phone please share. Wifi here is spotty so my only option is phone blogging.
